If you leave a piece of moist bread covered under a
small bell jar at a warm place, mould grows on it in
a few days. Answer the following with reference to
this observation :
(a) How did the mould get inside the bell- jar?
(b) What would happen if the bread was not
covered by the bell-jar?
(c) What would happen if moist bread was placed
in a refrigerator?
(d) What appears first on the bread-the mycelia
or the spores?
(e) How does bread mould obtain nourishment ?
What type of nourishment is it-epiphytic,

(a) Ans :- The pice of bread that is placed inside a jar will develop mould because these were already present in the surroundings.

(b) Ans :- If the bread is not kept in the bell jar than the fungi will attack and destroy the bread.

(c) Ans :- If the moist bread was placed inside the refrigerator , mould spores would not have germinated. This is because spores need moist and warm conditions to germinate.

(d) Ans :- The spores appears first on the bread because , on the moist bread , the spores germinate first to form the mycelium.

(d) Ans :- The bread mould has a saprophytic mode of nourishment. In saprophytic nutrition, the organisms obtain their food from dead and decaying organic matter of dead plants, dead animals and other decomposing organic matter.
