The first step of aerobic respiration ia glycolysis or also called as EMP pathway or common pathway.
It is known so because it's first step, called glycolysis, is common to both aerobic and anaerobic modes of respiration.
In anaerobic respiration glycolysis breaks down glucose enzymatically is several steps to for two of the molecules of pyruvate, 2ATP and 2NADH (+H^+). After that pyruvate is anaerobically broken down to yield various products depending upon the type of organism and the type of tissue provided.
