In a class of 40 students, 3/5 of the total number of students are girls. How many students of the class are boys?
Answers
3/5*40=x
24=x
total no. of boyes in the class = 40-24
=16
Concept:
We need the concept of algebra and fractions to solve this question.
Algebra is the branch of mathematics which expresses problems into mathematical expressions and then solve them using relevant methods.
Fraction is a concept which represents a part(maybe half, one-third etc) of a whole.
Given:
We are given the number of students to be 40, from which 3/5 of them are girls
To find:
We are to find how many students in the class are boys.
Solution:
Let x be the number of boys in the class of 40 students
Then, the number of girls is 3/5 of 40
=3/5x40
=3x8
=24
Thus, there are 24 girls in the class
Hence, The number of boys in the class
= The total number of students - no. of girls
=40-24
=16
∴Out of 40 students, there are 16 boys in the class.
In, fraction form it can be written as:
16/40
=8/20 (on simplifying by dividing the numerator and denominator by 2) =4/10 (on simplifying by dividing the numerator and denominator by 2) =2/5 (on simplifying by dividing the numerator and denominator by 2)
Hence, The number of boys in the class is 16 which is 2/5 of the total students.
