Answer: 24 students play chess only

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

Total student = 80

Student play carom; n(A)= 60%

Students play chess; n(B)= 45%

Students neither play carom nor chess n(A∩B)' = 10%

i.e students that play either carom or chess  n(A∪B)= 100% - 10% = 90%

As we know n(A∪B)=n(A)+ n(B) - n(A∩B)

therefore

90%= 60%+ 45% - n(A∩B)

n(A∩B)= 15%

Therefore the numbers of students play chess only = n(B)- n(A∩B)

= 45%-15% = 30%

Now 30% of 80 is \dfrac{30}{100} \times 80= 24

Hence, 24 students play chess only
