Starch is tested best with iodine. When starch comes in contact with Iodine it turns dark blue. When drops of iodine solution are poured on a starch containing thing it would instantly turn dark blue at places where there is starch.
For metanil yellow testing HCL is used. When concentrated hydrochloric acid comes in contact with metanil yellow it turns pink.
