(a). X is CuSO_{4} commonly known as anhydrous copper sulfate.

(b). CuSO4_{4}.5H_{2}O commonly known as copper sulfate is known as blue vitriol due to its blue colour.

  • Hydrated copper sulfate ( CuSO4_{4}.5H_{2}O )  is blue in colour whereas anhydrous copper sulfate ( CuSO_{4} ) is white in colour.
  • It is used as a fungicide and also in the test for anemia.
