In a long distance race the athletes were expected to take four rounds of the track such that the line of finish was same as the line of start. Suppose the length of the track was 200 m

(i) What is the total distance to be covered by the athletes?

(ii) What is the displacement of the athletes when they touch the finish line?

(iii) Is the motion of the athletes uniform or non-uniform.

(iv) Is the displacement of an athlete and the distance moved by him at the end of the race equal?

Hey there!

(i) Distance covered = 200 x 4 = 400 m
(ii) Displacement will be zero as the athlete is running on a straight line.
i.e Final Position - Initial Position = 0.
(iii) It's Uniform because direction of athlete changes while running on track.
(iv) No, they're not equal.

Hope IT Helps You!

taannaa: ii) on a straightline?
duragpalsingh: yeah

(i)total distance of the track is 200×2=400 (including finishing one to starting point

total distance covered by athlete is 4×400=1600m=1.6km

(ii) Displacement is 0

(iii) uniform motion, in question doesn't say about the speed so it may be uniform

(iv) doesn't e equal because distance is 1.6km and displacement is 0
1.6≠0

hope it is helpful
