Given :  in a map 2cm denotes a distance of 3 km

To find :  Scale in the map

Solution:

Scale of the map  = Distance on map :  Actual Distance

Distance on map = 2 cm

Actual Distance = 3 km

1 km = 1000 m

=> Actual Distance = 3 * 1000  = 3000 m

1 m = 100 cm

=> Actual Distance =  3000 * 100  = 300000 cm

Distance on map = 2 cm

Actual Distance =  300000 cm

=> Distance on map : Actual Distance = 2  cm : 300000 cm

=> Distance on map : Actual Distance = 1 : 150000

Scale of the map   =  1 : 150000
