Let the total no. of students be x

Given that :

3 / 5 th are boys that means 2 / 5 th are girls.

So 2 / 5 of x = 400

2 / 5 × x = 400

2x = 400 × 5

2x = 2000

x = 2000 / 2

x = 1000

So there are total 1000 students in the school

Given that 400 are girls

No. of boys = 1000 - 400

No. of boys = 600
