Hey there !

Solution:

Let the Maximum marks be X

So 40% of X is the pass mark.

Rahul gets 178 maths and fails by 32 marks. So the pass mark is 178 + 32 which is 210 marks.

So 40% of X is 210 marks.

=> ( 40 / 100 ) * X = 210

=> ( 0.4 ) X = 210

=> X = 210 / 0.4 = 525 marks.

Hence the maximum marks that can be scored is 525 marks.

Hope my answer helped !

as according to question RAHUL has to take 40% marks of total marks to pass but we don't know the numbers of passing marks .

So as according to question he gets 178 marks but still he got fail with 32 marks it means the total passing are 178+32= 210 marks.

So now come to the point
40% of x = 210
=> (40/100)x=210
=>x = 210/0.4= 525

____________

so the maximum marks are 525 marks.

HOPE IT HELPED YOU .
