The Silk Road is a name assigned to the various trade routes that joined Europe and the Mediterranean with the Asian world. The range is over 6,500 km long and got its name because the early Chinese bought silk along it. Although silk was the principal trading article there were many other goods that progressed along the Silk Road within Eastern Asia and Europe. In the passage of time, medicine, fragrances, seasonings, and livestock found their way between regions.
