  • Total number of letters in the word cotton=6
  • And the two O's are placed in the rightmost and left most places I.e. their position is fixed.
  • Out of 6 positions, 2 places are already filled.
  • So we are left with 4 positions vacant and 4 letters to be arranged.
  • As repetition is allowed each vacant place can have all the 4 letters.
  • 1st vacant place=4 letters

2nd vacant place=4 letters

3rd vacant place=4 letters

4th vacant place=4 letters

Total no. of ways=4*4*4*4=256

Hope this helps you.
