a simple pendulum will show SHM if only if it is given a small amplitude ( l>>>>a).

simple harmonic motion is the oscillatory motion with no loss of energy.

if any body shows oscillating motion and looses energy ; do not exhibits SHM .

A simple pendulum exhibits SHM just bcoz the loss of energy w.r.t time is very very less n thus almost negligible.

rather an ideal oscillating body executing SHM is not possible coz every body loses K.E. during its motion.
