Length of the whole rectangle = 18 cm

Breadth of the whole rectangle = 14 cm

Area of the whole rectangle = l × b

= 18cm × 14cm

= 252 cm^2.

Length of the unshaded portion of the rectangle = 12cm

Breadth of the unshaded portion of the rectangle = 8 cm

Area of the unshaded portion of the rectangle = l×b = 12cm × 8cm = 96cm^2 .

Thus , Area of the shaded part = ( Area of the whole rectangle) - (Area of the unshaded portion of the rectangle)

= 252cm^2 - 96cm^2 = 156cm^2 .
