Marine ecosystem covers the large sea floors and includes oceans, estuaries,  salt marshes and lagoons.

Mangrove ecosystem refers to tidally influenced wetland ecosystem. It is part of the marine ecosystem.

Salient features of mangrove ecosystem

1. The main difference which makes mangrove ecosystem unique from other marine ecosystem, is the presence of mangroves,

2. Mangroves are trees that have long tangled roots and capable of surviving in the salt brackish water.

3. The root system of mangroves slow down the tidal waves, which result in depositing of sediments, which are not eroded. This makes mangroves a valuable source of soil conservation.

4. The soil below the mangroves contain sediments of heavy metals.

5. The intricate roots of mangroves offers home to a variety of species.

The key points of difference between Mangrove ecosystem and marine ecosystem are as follows:

• Mangrove ecosystems are mainly located in near tropical areas where they have an inflow of salt and fresh water in perfect balance.

• The trees in these areas are able to withstand the high saline content in the water due to their unique physiology.

• Marine Ecosystems on the contrary are the largest ecosystems out of all of the aquatic ecosystems on the planet and have salt content in large volumes.
