fission is when the cell/s of an organism simply divides into two or more to, in any orientation (definite or indefinite) to give rise to new individuals. ex: amoeba, plasmodium, leishmania

in fragmentation, the organism breaks into pieces and each piece develops into a new individual. ex: spirogyra
