The  product ‘X’ is

(d) C₆H₅CH₃

This reaction is called Grignard's reaction.

First, C₆H₅CH₂Br reacts with Mg in dry ether to form C₆H₅CH₂MgBr as the addition product.

Next, C₆H₅CH₂MgBr reacts with H₂O, to form toluene ( C₆H₅CH₃ ) giving off MgBr(OH) as the by-product.

So, X is C₆H₅CH₃.

Thus, option (d) is correct
