Area of shaded region = Area of rectangle - Area of semicircle Area of rectangle = AD x AB = 14 x 21 = 294 `cm^2`
Radius of semicircle r = BC/2 = 14/2 = 7 cm
Area of semicircle = `1/2pir^2` = `1/2*22/7*7^2` = 77 `cm^2`

Area of shaded region = 294 - 77 = 217 `cm^2` Area of shaded region is 217 `cm^2`
