In the given figure if the vertical distance from e to b is same as the horizontal distance from e to either charge and the electric field at b due to either charge has magnitude 1.0×10^6. if q1 is negative and q2 is positive, what is the direction of the net electric field at b?

In this kind of questions, first draw a diagram as attached !

  • Now, E_{Q1} is the field intensity due to negative charge Q1.

  • E_{Q2} is the field intensity due to positive charge Q2.

Now, the net field intensity at point B will be vector addition of the field intensity is from the two charges.

  • Now, since the vectors are inclined to each other at an angle of 90°, the resultant vector will be towards the left parallel to the line AC.

NET VECTOR WILL BE TOWARDS LEFT.
