Mr. Oliver, the protagonist of the story 'A Face in the Dark' is a teacher in a public school in Shimla and looking at his work profile, we can in no way say that he was a nervous and imaginative person. Rather, he is a daring and adventurous person who is not scared to pass through the pine forest the dark of the night while returning from Shimla. It is obvious that the forest was haunted in the dark as not many people dared to pass by the forest at night. Moreover, not only the boy had a featureless face, the chowkidar was also the same which was enough as an evidence that Mr. Oliver really saw the faces, seeing whom he rushed towards his school. If he were really a nervous person, the shock of coming across two ghosts would have been enough for him to faint and succumb to the frightening situation.
