A utopian vision refers to a vision of a society that is so ideal that it is unlikely to actually exist. Sorrieu's vision is called utopian because it depicts people grouped as distinct nations, standing united on their aim of democracy and republics which was nothing more than his dream, his hope. The idea of nationalism wasn't so widespread at that time. Moreover Sorrieu depicted Germany as a nation state even though it wasn't one at that time. Hence it was a utopian depiction of all the existing and non -existing nation states.
