Burma (also known as Myanmar) democracy has not been realized in the real sense. The country gained independence in 1948, and had been under the military rule from 1962 to 2011. During this period, the country witnessed intense fight for democracy, in which Aung San Suu Kyi emerged as the most prominent leader fighting for the democratic rights of the people of Burma.
