It was the insurrection of the Parisians under the Jacobins in 1792 that finally established democracy in France. A large number of Parisians who were angered by the rise in prices, stormed the Palace of Tuileres on August 10, killed the King's Gaurds and held the King hostage. The Assembly voted to imprison the King and his family and voting rights were given to all French men above the age of 21 years. The long struggle for democracy thus culminated with the insurrection of the Parisians.
