Leptotene is the stage in which chromosome is thin like long thread.

Explanation:

This is the first phase of the Prophase I of the Meiosis I.  The prophase I phase is more difficult than the mitosis prophase. This meiosis prophase has five subsequent phases and the “Leptotene is the first phase” in-between the five phases.  

This leptotene phase is also known as thin threaded stage. In this stage the volume of the nucleus became increased. In this stage the chromosome contains two sister chromatids which looks like thread like structure.
