Firstly, draw two mutually perpendicular lines which divide the plane into four quadrants.

If both ( abscissa and ardinates) coordinutes are positive, then point lies in 1 quadrant.

If abscissa is negative and ordinate is positive then point lies in ll quadrant.

If both coordinates are negative then point lies in lll quadrant.

If abscissa is positive and ordinate is negative then the point lies in lV quadrant.
