Pepsin works at acidic pH (i.e. about 1 - 2). Pepsinogen gets converted to pepsin in this pH by HCl present in stomach.
Whereas, gastric lipase works at an alkaline pH. Hence, it becomes truly effective when the chyme ( food being digested in the stomach) enters into the duodenum part of the small intestine where the pH of chyme is converted to alkaline from acidic by intestinal juices.
