Pokhran nuclear test 1974 was the first ever nuclear test done by India.

This test was code named as ‘Smiling Buddha’ and thereafter other tests were performed one after another.

In Pokhran total 5 nuclear bomb explosions were conducted on experimental basis.

The first bomb named ‘Smiling Buddha ‘ was a fusion bomb whereas the other four bombs being exploded in the later years were fission bombs.
