Patel was born and raised in the countryside of Gujarat. He was a successful lawyer. He subsequently organised peasants from Kheda,Borsad, and Bardoli in Gujarat in non-violent civil disobedience against theBritish Raj, becoming one of the most influential leaders in Gujarat. He rose to the leadership of the Indian National Congress, organising the party for elections in 1934 and 1937 while promoting the Quit India Movement.

As the first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of India, Patel organised relief efforts for refugees fleeing fromPunjab and Delhi and worked to restore peace. He led the task of forging a united India, successfully integrating into the newly independent nation thoseBritish colonial provinces that had been "allocated" to India. Besides those provinces that had been under direct British rule, approximately 565 self-governing princely states had been released from British suzerainty by theIndian Independence Act of 1947.

Threatening military force, Patel persuaded almost every princely state to accede to India. His commitment to national integration in the newly independent country was total and uncompromising, earning him the sobriquet "Iron Man of India".He is also remembered as the "patron saint of India's civil servants" for having established the modern all-India services system. He is also called the "Unifier of India". On 31 October 2018, Patel was honoured by the dedication of a 182 metre statue of him, called the ‘Statue of Unity’. The world’s tallest statue, it was dedicated on the 143rd anniversary of his birthday, at Kevadiya in Narmada District of Gujarat.

India of Sardar Vhallab Bhai Patel

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, remembered as iron man of India was a great man, visionary statesman, and pure patriot of India. He was the first Deputy Prime Minster of India. His love for his motherland was pure and untainted. He did not have any vested interests.

He wanted to make India one strong nation that was self-reliant in all aspects. He wanted to see India as developed, advanced, and resilient country. He not only played a pivotal role in the India’s struggle for independence, but also played the most crucial role in uniting India after independence.

Born on October 31, 1875 in Gujarat, he started his political career there; he launched many anti-British campaigns in Gujarat successfully. Under his leadership, India integrated as many as 565 self-governing princely states. He is known as the ‘Unifier of India’. His strategy and endeavor to unify Jammu and Kashmir, Junagadh, and Hyderabad were commendable. If he had not acted promptly, these territories would have been annexed to Pakistan.

In order to create a systematic nation, he started All India Services. The contemporary All-India administrative services would not come into being, if he had not had a vision for them.

It is believed that India would have been a far stronger country if he would have been allowed to become the Prime Minister of India.

India honored this legendary statesman and patriot by dedicating his tallest statue of the world near Sardar Sarovar Dam in Gujrat’s Narmada district on October 31, 2018.
