SOLUTION

TO DETERMINE

Insert two arithmetic means between 15 and 27.

EVALUATION

Let x and y are two arithmetic means between 15 and 27.

Then 15 , x , y , 27 are in Arithmetic Progression

First term = 15

Let common difference = d

Then x = 15 + d

y = 15 + 2d

27 = 15 + 3d

Now 27 = 15 + 3d gives

15 + 3d = 27

⇒ 3d = 27 - 15

⇒ 3d = 12

⇒ d = 4

∴ x = 15 + d = 15 + 4 = 19

∴ y = 15 + 2d = 15 + 8 = 23

FINAL ANSWER

Hence the required two arithmetic means between 15 and 27 are 19 and 23
