interparticle space or rather intermolecular space is absent in sclerenchyma due to the presence of extremely thickly lumen in the cell which has lead them to swell. moreover the main function of sclerenchyma is to protect the plant due to which it needs to have a tendency to leave as much as lesser space for any foreign particle to enter into the tender environment inside the plant due to which it has extremely negligible intercellular space.
