The reaction of Iodoform and Chloroform with silver nitrate

Explanation

  • The compound such as iodoform and chloroform produces the different product when they react with silver nitrate.
  • The chemical reaction occurring between in Iodoform and silver nitrate is as shown:

AgNO_3+CHI_3\rightarrow AgI+CHCl_2+NO_3^{-}

  • The reason for precipitation is the formation of AgI, as it is least soluble in the solution on heating.
  • The reaction occurring between silver nitrate and chloroform is as shown:

AgNO_3+CHCl_3\rightarrow AgCl+CHCl_2+NO_3^{-1}

  • AgCl readily gets soluble in aqueous solution on heating and doesnt not gets precipitated.
