It is the property of iron to get attracted towards a magnet. In a mixture, the properties of the constituent elements do not change, so the iron particles get attracted towards the magnet. But iron sulphide is a compound formed from iron and sulphur. The properties of the constituent elements are lost when a compound is formed. So, the iron particles in iron sulphide are not attracted by a magnet.
