 \frac{ \sin( \alpha ) }{\cos( \alpha ) }  =  \tan( \alpha )

Explanation:

Theta and Alpha carries same meaning. So theta is replaced by Alpha.

We know that,

 \frac{opp}{hyp}  =  \sin( \alpha )

 \frac{adj}{hyp}  =  \cos( \alpha )

 \frac{opp}{adj}  =  \tan( \alpha )

So when,

 \frac{ \sin( \alpha ) }{ \cos( \alpha ) }  =   \frac{ \frac{opp}{hyp} }{ \frac{adj}{hyp} }

The hypotenuse gets cancelled and remaining is opp/adj which is equal to tan theta
