It is partly because of the false presumption that judiciary can be independent only if it isolates itself from the government and the other institutions.

Just as academics believe that they should be the sole decision makers on all academic issues. Same goes for doctors, lawyers, and most other professionals.

They don't seem to understand that this will only lead to inbreeding, which is counterproductive.

Read the names of Judges in SC (and to an extent, even HCS). You'll find the same last name often repeated. Even if not done intentionally, judges have come to believe that judgeship runs in the blood. How are they different from the Cong and other family owned political parties?

SC lost a great opportunity to reform when NJAC was rejected in toto. If they had specific objections to certain clauses of NJAC, they could have recommended specific changes.

Even now SC can review the NJAC decision suo moto.
