Answer:

Pie (\pi) is an irrational number.

Solution:

\pi, that we use in day to day mathematics, is a fraction, \frac {22}{7} which is rational.

Often, it is considered as irrational because it is a favourite approximation for many people.

But, 22/7 is a rational number which is generally used to approximate the value of \pi, which is an irrational number and therefore the expression of \pi as a ratio of two integer numbers is quite inappropriate.

The value of

\pi , \frac { 22 } { 7 } = 3 . \overline { 142857 }

22/7 is just a value for estimation of pi value. So, pi (\pi) is an irrational number.
