is the meaning of  "dawned" means "to recognize" ?? i dont want the meaning of dawned but does it mean "to recognize"?

The dawn as verb means to understand or to realize something for the first time. But it does not mean to recognize. When you use dawn as verb to mean to realize, you must use on after dawn. For example: Suddenly it dawned on me that I had forgotten the keys at home.
