There are many criterias that are used to distinguish between monocots and dicots.

Seed
Monocots have only one seed leaf and 1 vein while Dicots have two seed leaves and 2 veins.

Germination
Monocot seed on germination produces 1 leaf and Dicot seed on germination produces two leaflets.

Stem and roots
Monocot stem is usually unbranched and fleshy. Dicot stem is usually rough, and grow wide and wide year after year.

Observing all these different trends for both Wheat and Groundnut, we can place,
Wheat as Monocot
Groundnut as Dicot.
