It has been seven years since I visited my aunt's house. I really like her as she lets me do whatever I want to and seldom shouts at me. At night, after dinner, I was lying on the couch and watching my favourite television show. THUD ! The loud noise startled me and I woke up. I hadn't realized when I had fallen asleep on the couch. I got up to check the source of the thunderous sound.
The first thing I noticed was that it was ajar. My aunt is very careful so, it was a quite surprising to find the door unlocked. The night was starless and the air was still. It was one of those nights where you feel unsafe and scared. I didn't want to go near the door to close it . I call my aunt's name a couple of times, but got no response. "What was that ? " I screamed. Something brushed against my leg and I couldn't see what it was. My heart was beating like a drum. Without my aunt , I felt helpless.
CRACK! The noise was coming from outside the house. I wanted to run to my room, lock the door and hide under the blanket. Just when I almost turned to run upstairs,I remembered my mother's words, 'You must face your fears'.
I gathered courage ,took a few steps forward and peeked outside ,still standing behind the door.
I had never experienced such a sudden change of emotions ; from being scared to feeling loved as I did that night. There were about five cats playing with my aunt. " What are you doing,Aunt ? It's midnight," I asked her.
" These are rescued cats. I got a call from an emergency rescue and I didn't want to wake you up. These cats need card so I got them home . Have I disturbed you?" I didn't have any answer to her question. I laughed at myself and went again to sleep.
