let 1/x be a and 1/y be b

2a+3b=13 1)

5a-4b=-2 2)

using elimination method

multiplying 1 and 2 with 5 and 2 respectively,

10a+15b=65 3)

10a-8b=-2

- + +

cancelling the a term

23b =69

b=69/23

b=3

putting the value of b in 3

10a +15(3)=65

10a+45=65

10a=20

a=2

hence 1/x=a=2 and 1/y=b=3

then, x=1/2 and y=1/3
