The Nagarjuna Sagar Dam is a dam built across the River Krishna in the state of Telengana. The purpose of building this dam to form a water reservoir. The water from the reservoir is drained into two canals on the right and left sides of the river.


The right canal or Jawahar canal is 203km long with 311.5 cumecs capacity. It is helpful in irrigating the land in Prakasam and Guntur districts.


The left canal or Lal Bahadur Shastri canal is slightly smaller with a length of 179km and the same cumecs capacity of 311.5. It is used in irrigating land in Krishna, Khammam, West Godavari, and Nalgonda districts.
