Indirect/Reported Speech refers to a dialogue being told to a third person/reporting what happened to a third person.
Example: Jane said,"I am correcting papers." (Direct)
Jane said that she was correcting papers. (Indirect/Reported)
In the above example, when writing in reported/indirect form, the sentence changes according to its tense. Also, modifications regarding certain words like 'will' changes to 'would', 'may' changes to 'might', 'you' changes to 'I', 'yesterday' changes to 'the previous day' and many other words will have to be made.
Jay said to his servant,"Do as I tell you." (Direct)
Jay ordered his servant to do as he told him. (Indirect/Reported)
Hope it helps :)
