Answer:

The 'Sermon at Benares' is titled so because of the first sermon that Buddha preached at Benares, on the bank of Ganges.

Explanation:

"Sermon at Benares" narrates the story of the life of Gautam Buddha. Buddha's birth name was Siddhartha Gautama. He was born in kingly family. After seeing the sufferings of the men, he decided to leave his princedom in search of enlightenment. He became a beggar. And for seven years he wandered to seek the knowledge and truth. After attaining enlightenment, Buddha began preaching. The first sermon that he preached was at Benares, which was situated on the bank of Ganges.

The sermon was about an inescapable suffering of death. The story is about a lady whose name was Kisa Gotami. Her one and only son died and in order to get him back  to life she knocks many doors, and the someone tells her to approach Buddha. Buddha then tells her to find a seed of mustard from the house which has seen no death. But she finds none. Then Buddha preaches her that the suffering of death is unavoidable and every human have to under go this suffering so mourning over this suffering is pointless. If one wants to be happy then he must accept the fact of death.

Since this was the first sermon that Buddha preached at Benares, the title of the story is named "Sermon at Benares.
