A kilowatt-hour is a unit of energy.

Since energy is Power x Time, it results when you [expend or create or accumulate] 1000 watts for 1 hour . And since there are 3600 seconds in an hour and a joule (SI derived unit of energy) is another name for a watt-second, then

1 kilowatt-hour = 3,600,000 joules
