a unique initiative to revive the declining interest in letter writing, especially among the youth, the Department of Posts under the Union Ministry of Communications has organised a nationwide letter writing competition calling for letters to be written to Mahatma Gandhi.
According to Department, the theme of the contest is, “Dear Bapu (Mahatma Gandhi), you inspire me.” The last date for submission to the competition which is open to all, is August 15. The results will be declared in New Delhi on Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary on October 2.
Speaking to The Hindu Chief Postmaster General of West Bengal Circle Arundhuti Ghosh said: “We have chosen Mahatma Gandhi as his ideals such as non-violence still have a strong appeal to the younger generation. He is an icon who is recognised not only in India but in the world.”

Dear Mahatmaji,
I am writing this letter to tell you that you have always inspired me. Whenever I read about you, I always wanted to meet at least once in my life You are a great leader and you are a person who was living a selfless life which was not for himself but for others.
You have also taught us that everyone makes mistakes and everyone has some weaknesses.There is no one in this world who is perfect. But there are great personalities like you in this world .And I know others can also be like you , they just need to overcome their weaknesses like you did in your childhood.
You also taught us to do every work on our own.You taught us to become independent like were.You used to do every work of yours even cleaning washroom also . You knew how to cook and how to sew also. You also used to write books.You were having so many qualities which made you a great personality.
Whatever you do, you were always determined and whoever has strong will power Being around myself and everyone, what I have learned about you is such a simple family and with such a simple life, you still prefer education and give the best education possible can do. When you come for simple lifestyle and high thinking, then you are the models of my role, even with simple lifestyle, you have a lot of risk in life.
I also came to know that you are a good writer who inspires me to make versatile and works as good as I can. Your biggest surprise, which I do not ever want to forget, is that the change brought about without any violent activities in the world which is remarkable.
Even after leaving this world, you inspire many people. Today I am still in the world of so many progress and hope to become like you. I hope and wish that you were with us here so that you can teach us more of our beliefs.
