Dear Friend,
I trust this letter finds you and your family in a good health. You know this year on Pongal vacation I went to my grandparent's house in Kerala and had a lot of fun.
I had conventional south Indian food and all the women made exquisite rangoli and decorated the house.
We witnessed boat racing etc. The entire week was so enjoyable despite everything I recall the masala dosa and coconut water.
Yours Sincerely

My dear Kirti
How are you? Hope you are enjoying the best of health and happiness. I have just returned from Chennai. I had Pongal holidays for a week. So I went to my cousin's house in Chennai.
Pongal is a harvest festival which is celebrated from January 14 to 17. It corresponds with Makara Sankranthi which is a winter harvest festival celebrated throughout India. It is an important Hindu festival which is celebrated as a thanksgiving ceremony for the year's harvest. It is dedicated to the Sun.
The festival was celebrated for four days in my cousin's house. My uncle cut the sugarcane and distributed its pieces to everyone. My aunt cooked new rice. She boiled rice, milk and jaggery. This dish is typically made in all households on Pongal.
My uncle and aunt invited guests for a party. There were a lot of special dishes which we all enjoyed. We had a lot of fun. We were given new clothes and gifts. In the next few days we visited all our relatives and friends. We took sweets and gifts for them.
In this way I enjoyed wearing new dresses, relished the lovely traditional dishes and socialized with people during the holidays. On the fifth day I returned home with lots of gifts.
Do you have a thanksgiving festival in your place? Let me know all about it.
With lots of love
Your friend
