liquid generally have lower density as compared to solids but you must have observed the ice float on the water because when the ice is made when it captures some air molecule in its density of ice is become lower than liquid so the ice can be easily float on the water.

Liquid generally have lesser density as compared to solids but ice floats on water despite of being a solid. The reason for this is the structure of ice is made up of a cage like formation inside due to hydrogen – hydrogen bond formation.
This cage like structure of hydrogen traps a lot of air inside the actual pieces of ice. Due to the presence of this air, ice becomes lighter than its liquid form which is water and is observed to float on it.
