General Motor performance tests:

Barrow's Three-Items General Motor Skills Test Athletic skills play a very important role in achieving top positions in games and sports. Motor skills include speed, agility, strength, coordination, power, and more. These fitness components are necessary to compete at the highest level. Barrow's Tripartite Test Battery is used to measure general athletic performance. This test measures a person's general athletic ability using his three-item battery of long jump, zigzag, and medicine ball throw.

  • Strength:

The amount of tension a muscle can exert at maximum contraction. Two of his tests that traverse the full range of motion that meet full-body strength standards are the one-rep bench press and the leg press.

  • Flexibility:

Flexibility is included in the overall rating due to the widespread problem of back pain and joint pain. Flexibility is the range of motion possible for a joint or group of joints. The functional capacity of all joints should be determined, but the trunk flexion or sit-and-reach test serves as one. An important measure of hip and back flexibility.

Details on how to perform these tests are provided below-

1. Standing long jump (leg strength measurement)

Tools and belongings:- 5 x 12 ft mat and gauge if the mat is unmarked.

procedure:

  • The starting line is marked on the ground. The subject stands directly behind his starting line, feet a few centimeters apart.
  • Subject swings arms and bends knees to dive into long jump pit. You will be given three essays on this subject.
  • Distance is measured from the takeoff line to the heel or other part of the body in contact with the ground closest to the takeoff line.
  • All jumps are measured and the best recorded.

2. Equipment and materials for the Zigzaglan (to measure agility and speed):- Plenty of room for a stopwatch, 5 obstacles, and a 16 x 10-foot course.

procedure:

  • The subject begins in a standing position when commanded to run.
  • Subjects run as fast as possible through the specified pattern without holding their breath.
  • Three complete circuits are driven. The stopwatch starts when the command to execute is given and stops as soon as the subject crosses the finish line.
  • Times are recorded to the tenth of a second. Subjects should be properly warmed up before zigzag running.
  • Subjects should wear well-fitting shoes with traction to avoid blistering and slipping.
  • A demonstration of the course pattern should be done by the management before the start of the run.
