Dear Student,

● Prophase-I -

  • It is longest and most complex phase of meiosis.
  • Chromosomes condense in this phase.
  • Homologous chromosomes synapse to form a tetrad.
  • Here, non-sister chromatids exchange genetic material called as crossing over.

# Prophase of meiosis-I is subdivided into 5 stages -

  1. Leptotene
  2. Zygotene
  3. Pachytene
  4. Diplotene
  5. Diakinesis

Hope this helped you. Thanks for asking..

Sub-stages of prophase-I:

  • Prophase-I is the first stage of the meiosis cell division. This is the most complicated stage of the meiosis cell division. Prophase-I has various sub-stages like Leptotene, Zygotene, Pachytene, Diplotene, and Diakinesis in this order.
  • This is the longest phase than the other phases of the meiosis cell division. In the Prophase-I phase, the chromosomes became visible, condensed, shorter, thicker, coiled and duplicated and can be visible properly under the microscope.
