For a plant to survive in forests, it would need a protective layer of appendages like thorns, bitter tasting leaves and less smelly flowers.

Explanation:

  • A forest is a place of wild animals out of which some of herbivorous and they survive on eating plants. For a plant to survive in forests and stop the chance of getting eaten by these animals, primarily they need certain protective features.
  • Thorns when present would be a deterrent for some animals as they would get hurt while chewing the plants. Secondly, if the plants produce bitter tasting leaves that would also deter animals.
  • Lastly animals get attracted by the sweet smelling flowers, so if the plants do not bear those there is a higher chance of survival.
