★ Newlands law of octaves :-

The law of octaves was put forward by John Newland in 1864. This law states that when the elements are arranged in the increasing order of their atomic masses, the properties of the eight element are similar to that of the first.

Based on the given arrangement of elements, Ne (neon) should exhibit properties that are similar to Li (lithium). But, such an answer is not valid/correct because Newlands law of octaves is only applicable when the elements are arranged in the increasing order of their atomic masses.

In the given arrangement, elements are not placed in such a way. Hence, neon won't exhibit properties similar to lithium.

In actual, Na (sodium) exhibits properties similar to Li (lithium).

NOTE : Neon was discovered only in 1898 while Newland put forward his periodic table in 1864. This shows that neon is not even present in Newlands periodic table. Hence, our assumed answer is clearly incorrect.
